TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
In many parish churches, more rarely in monastery churches and cathedrals, the tabernacle with the Blessed Sacrament is visible from a doorway or aisle in the church. Normally, a person is to give the proper sign of reverence, a genuflection, when passing in proximity to the tabernacle. The word “genuflect” comes from Latin roots meaning bending (or flexing) the knee. A common-sense exception to the rule is for a sacristan who is taking care of the church and can't be genuflecting every thirty seconds during a vacuum run. Also excepted are persons in procession entrusted with important symbols of the Lord's presence. So, a cross bearer or a minister carrying the Gospel book, or ministers on their way to their Communion stations do not genuflect. For everyone else, the usual sign of reverence for the Lord's presence in the Blessed Sacrament is to genuflect on the right knee.
The oldest form of reverence during prayer in our tradition is standing; kneeling or genuflecting is a sign borrowed from old civic practice. The posture of kneeling, even on one knee, is a sign of submission. Servants would take this position before their masters in the ancient world. It said: I'm not running away, I'm yours, I'm here for you. This is what your genuflection says when you enter a Catholic church where the place of reservation of the Blessed Sacrament is visible to you: I'm yours.

June Dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
The month of June is dedicated to The Sacred Heart of Jesus
Jesus knew and loved us each and all during His life, His agony and His Passion, and gave Himself up for each one of us: "The Son of God . . . loved me and gave Himself for me." He has loved us all with a human heart. For this reason, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced by our sins and for our salvation, "is quite rightly considered the chief sign and symbol of that. . . love with which the divine Redeemer continually loves the eternal Father and all human beings" without exception. " CCC478

"The Heart: The heart is the symbol for true love, charity, understanding, and piety; for happiness and joy as well as sorrow. The emblem for devotions to the Sacred Heart is a flaming heart, surmounted by a Cross and enclosed in the Crown of Thorns. As an attribute, the flaming heart generally suggests religious fervor, the pierced heart contrition and repentance."

What is Ordinary Time?
The rhythm of the liturgical seasons reflects the rhythm of life — with its celebrations of anniversaries and its seasons of quiet growth and maturing. Ordinary Time, meaning ordered or numbered time, is celebrated in two segments: from the Monday following the Baptism of Our Lord up to Ash Wednesday; and from Pentecost Monday to the First Sunday of Advent. This makes it the largest season of the Liturgical Year. In vestments usually green, the color of hope and growth, the Church counts the thirty-three or thirty-four Sundays of Ordinary Time, inviting her children to meditate upon the whole mystery of Christ...His life, miracles and teachings – in the light of His Resurrection. LISTENING TO CHRIST'S WORDS
One definition of spirituality might be "an inner set of values by which we relate to an outer set of realities." In that sense, everyone has spirituality because everyone has a set of values by which they live, whatever those values may be. For Christians, our values are found in the words of Christ.

INSIDE THE READINGS
Today's Gospel provides a fitting conclusion to the Sermon on the Mount. Every person must do the will of the Father, which is found in Jesus' teachings. Jesus says that "the one who does the will of my Father in heaven" (Matthew 7:21) will enter the kingdom. But he also insists that every Christian must listen to and act on his teachings (7:24). In today's first reading Yahweh expects that same compliance from the Israelites. "Be careful to observe all the statutes and decrees that I set before you today" (Deuteronomy 11:32).
Saying in conjunction with doing is the basic challenge of Matthew 7:21-23. Saying, even crying out "Lord, Lord," is not sufficient. The charismatic gifts mentioned, such as prophecy, exorcisms, and miracles, are for the benefit of the community. People cry out "Lord" when seeking a miracle (Matthew 8:2) or in an act of faith: "Jesus is Lord" (Philippians 2:11). But the essential requirement is hearing and acting, a moral life in harmony with the will of God (Matthew 7:24-27).
Jesus' response to those who work wonders but are morally deficient will be, "I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers" (Matthew 7:23). In Matthew's description of the last judgment the Son of Man says to those who did not help the poor and needy, "Depart from me, you accursed" (Matthew 25:41). Action based on one's faith is essential!
The house built on rock is a sign of prudence (7:24) "Rock" is the symbol for the foundation of the church. "You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). In the Old Testament Yahweh is often pictured as the "Rock," the foundation of the Chosen People. "You were unmindful of the Rock that begot you, you forgot the God who gave you birth" (Deuteronomy 32:18).

THOUGHTS FOR ACTION
There are many voices, each speaking many words. Perhaps the only way to sort through them all and decide which we will live by is to sit silently. A paradox, to sit in silence surrounded by words demanding our attention. And yet that is the only way to hear clearly. Christ invites us to act on the words of his that we hear.
