TRUST IN JESUS
Today's feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith—the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God's word to them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today's Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood and a share in eternal life besides. We are called to take him at his word and open our hearts to receive true nourishment and life from our participation in the Eucharist.

Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ – Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi is the feast day celebrating the Institution of the Mass. Traditionally on Corpus Christi the Blessed Sacrament is placed in Exposition and Adoration concluding with a Procession and Benediction. The most important ritual of Corpus Christi is that of the Procession. Traditionally, for this event the entire parish is invited to participate. The Procession is comprised of Clergy, Ministry Groups, and Parishioners. Often children in First Communion attire precede the Blessed Sacrament dropping flower petals to create a carpet for the approaching Eucharist. Since the procession is most times held outside, traveling throughout the community, the Monstrance is often protected by an embroidered silk canopy held by four posts, borne by parishioners or altar servers. The purpose of the procession is to publicly proclaim and reaffirm our devotion to the Holy Eucharist. The procession at Immaculate Conception will be done inside the church. We, the faithful, will carry the Eucharist with us, in us, as we leave the church and enter into the community, representing Jesus among us.Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for Corpus Christi

Let Us Remember Them
Memorial Day Service and Mass at the Cemetery on Monday, May 26th at 9AM.
As Memorial Day approaches, it is time to pause and consider the true meaning of this holiday. Memorial Day represents one day of national awareness and reverence, honoring those Americans who died while defending our Nation and its values. While we should honor these heroes every day for the profound contribution they have made to secure our Nation's freedom, we should honor them especially on Memorial Day. White House Press, 5/2/2000

INSIDE THE READINGS
In today's Gospel Jesus gives the wonderful promise of the Eucharist, his continuing presence in the church. The Christian's sharing in the life of God begins with faith and baptism. "For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:26). This life is then nourished by the reception of Christ in Holy Communion. Jesus assures his followers that "the one who feeds on me will have life because of me" (John 6:57). The Eucharist is also the promise of immortality. "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day" (6:54).
Today's second reading gives an insight into how the Eucharist, promised by Jesus, was celebrated by the Christians of Corinth some twenty-five years later. In 1 Corinthians Paul gives a realistic view of the life of an early Christian community. There was, for example, the problem of a lack of unity; there were also a number of issues dealing with the liturgy. Paul presents here important teachings on the Eucharist. The earliest literary account of the institution of the Eucharist is in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
A particular problem in Corinth was the practice of some believers who were partaking "of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons" (1 Corinthians 10:21). They were attending public sacrifices to idols ("demons" to Paul). In his response to this problem for the Corinthian community, Paul provides some important insights into the Eucharist. Partaking of the Eucharist is still a “participation in the blood of Christ" and "a participation in the body of Christ" (10:16). The Christian must live a Christ-centered life as one who shares in the body and blood of Christ. One result of this common partaking should be unity among Church members. "Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf" (10:17).
